One of my favorite things in Hawaii is getting Shave Ice. Sean & I will make trips to various parts of the islands specifically to get shave ice. There’s just something about it that is perfect any time of the year. Even when I’m in a sweat shirt I can eat shave ice.
When the folks at Hawaiian Shave Ice reached out, I jumped at the chance to get my own shave ice machine so we could make our own at home.
I got the America’s Favorite Shaved Ice Pack It comes with a HomePro Shaved Ice Machine, 3 Pints of Shaved Ice syrup (16oz each) – Pina Colada, Cherry, & Blue Cotton Candy, three bottle pourers, 5 Ice Molds with lids, and a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty. I also got some spoon straws & snow cone cups.
The ice molds make it really easy, you fill them 3/4 full, there is a max line as well. Freeze & then when you are ready to eat, you wait 5-7 mins before shaving for the fluffiest ice. I admit I was a bit impatient so I didn’t get the fluffiest of ice the first go.
The machine itself is really easy to use as well. On the top of the machine there is an S shaped handle that opens or locks the ice in place. Once the ice is in & the machine is locked, with a bowl to collect ice, you plug it in & press the start button on the top. In less than a minute, the ice is all shaved & ready for toppings!
We used the cherry syrup that came with the machine but there are a lot of options for toppings. The syrups we got were vegan.
Before we went vegan we loved to get ice cream & adzuki beans with our shave ice. Now that we have our machine, we can now add in vegan ice cream on the bottom. I might even try to make some sweetened adzuki beans and get/make some haupia cream too.
You can also use fruit juice as a topping. I like this option as I tend to gravitate to a normal natural topping option.
